Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars by Daniel Pinkwater

The book I read was called Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars by Daniel Pinkwater. It is a fiction book about a character named Leonard Neeble. The story takes place in a town called Hogboro in the early 2000's. He has just moved from his old neighborhood to this one. He starts at a new school, and he doesn't have any friends, until he meets Alan Mendelsohn. They become best friends. When Leonard starts falling behind in school, the school guidance counselor refers him to a child psychologist. The psychologist gives Leonard a week off of school and Alan gets suspended for a week for telling kids that he is a Martian and starting a riot. One day during their break from school, they decide to go to downtown Hogboro and they meet a collector of many sorts named Samuel Klugarsh. He sells them the Samuel Klugarsh mind control set, which Leonard and Alan use to make people take off their hats and rub their stomachs. They soon get bored of this and ask for a refund. Samuel trades them the mind control set for a book about Hyperstellar Archaeology. It is about lost cities like Waka Waka. The two soon find out how to get to this place, Waka Waka, and help the town defeat three Nafsulians, Manny, Moe and Jack. They have been stealing the berries that make their favorite drink Fleegix. It is like watery hot chocolate. After they defeat the Nafsulians, they head back to Hogboro. When Alan mysteriously disappears, Leonard has to figure out how to live without his best friend. Leonard decides to join an alternate gym class for people that are not very good at exercise and meets some new friends.
I would recommend this book to ages 13- 20 because I enjoyed this book and I’m 13 but it is a young adult book so I think older people would like it too.
